Old Milwaukee Depot

Restoring the integrity of the Old Milwaukee Depot, which was built in 1899, and preserving it historically was the goal when BUEA acquired it in 1995. Funding has been awarded from the Indiana Department of Transportation TEA program for the Phase I of the roof restoration process. Phase II is still in the planning stages.  Look for more progress in the fall of 2007.

CSX Depot

After years of leasing the CSX depot on J Street, BUEA purchased the building in early 2004. It is sublet to Lawrence County Solid Waste Management for a recycling center. Repairs are underway to stabilize the building.

Kid's Day

The Bedford Urban Enterprise Association coordinates and hosts Kids' Day at its "Care and Share Community Garden" in October of each year. The event is timed to coincide with fall break in the North Lawrence School's calendar. Kids' Day provides a free activity for children in kindergarten through the fifth grade. This event is partially sponsored by Geo-Flo Products.

Kids' Day treats children in Lawrence County to fall pumpkin fun. Activities include demonstrations of pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting and decorating, a clown, face painting, carnival games, and a petting zoo. Programs at the garden, which is located at 4th and H Streets, help spark children's curiosity about plant life cycles, plants as food sources and the interdependence of humans on other living things. Look for more free pumpkin fun next October.

Road Expansion

Funding was provided by BUEA for the expansion of an intersection at GM Drive and 5th Street to allow for semi tractor trailers and all other traffic vehicles to maneuver through the intersection more safely.
